The hall has been part of village life for over 100 years. It was at a meeting at Sunny Hill on Monday July 6th, 1890 that the members met 'to consider the question of the provision of a public room at Crawley Down'. Agreement was reached and the building went ahead and it seems that the entire cost of the 'ground, building and fitting came to £449. 13s. 8d.' Situated on the Turners Hill Road, not far from the church, the Village Hall first opened in 1891. Extract from "Crawley Down A brief History" by Valerie King and Ann Read
